Support

We offer three support options:

1. Support Group Meetings at Children’s Hospital – We will have guest speakers such as neurosurgeons, neurologists, neurosurgery nurse practitioners, physical and occupational therapists etc plus a specific topic to learn about at each meeting. Sample topics could include research on new treatments, shunt technologies, developmental outcomes, transition from child to adult treatment etc.

Upcoming Meeting:

Thursday, Feb 28 2013, 6-8 pm

Guest speaker Dr. Samuel Browd.  Director of Hydrocephalus and Nuerosurgeon at Seattle Children’s Hospital.

Located at Seattle Children’s Hospital in rooms G1026 and G1027.

Topics include:

A new kind of hydrocephalus shunt is being developed by Dr. Sam Browd.  It incorporates the latest technologies and promises to dramatically reduce failure rates.  Drs. Sam Browd and Barry Lutz started from scratch with a wish list of modern technologies that could be used to create the shunt of neurosurgeons and parents dreams. They are designing a battery-operated anti-fouling device with exquisite regulatory control.

Dr Browd is also performing a new procedure, Choroid Plexus Cauterization, to improve life for children with hydrocephalus. The neurosurgery team has had great results with it and he thinks there is a large portion of patients that will benefit from it.  “It opens up the possibility that a large portion of patients may be become shunt independent and that is an exciting new phase in the treatment of hydrocephalus,” said Dr. Browd. “We are thrilled about the technology and we think it will be great for patients and families.”

2. Online Hydrocephalus Community Forum – Our forum is a hosted as a discussion on the Children’s Hydrocephalus Support Group fan page on Facebook.   Become a fan if you want the forum to post a message on the new bulletin board and learn what other parents have to share. If you have a specific question, you just want to share your concerns/emotions or just want to read what other parents have to say.

3. Contact Us – Email lpoliski@hydrosupport.org or call Lori 425-482-0479 and we can discuss what you need most ie, to talk to another parent, information, pediatric neurosurgeons in your Northwest region etc. Also if you have an older child with hydrocephalus we can put you in contact with a similiar age child with hydrocephalus for support for your child.

We are here to help you in whatever ways will suit you best. Please let us know how we can help the most!
